DAY (01) Yangon Arrival

After passing through the immigration and custom controls, one of our English-speaking representatives (or) tour guides will welcome and escort you to your hotel. Enjoy lunch at hotel. In the afternoon, start an orientation tour of downtown Yangon. You will drive through Yangon's busy roads and take a glimpse of the hustle downtown, Indian and China towns. See the magnificent colonial buildings of Victorian & Edwardian era architecture. This introductory drive will end with a stop near Sule Pagoda - the centre mark of Yangon, for brief photo taking. Today's Yangon tour will be ending with a visit to Shwedagon Pagoda, the finest of Yangon and perhaps the most stunning religious edifice in the world. Take your time to enjoy seeing this impressive feature and watching local people. Stroll on its platform surrounded by set of smaller temples, shrines and pavilions, and observe numerous shops along the stairways selling various colorful items, flowers and books. As the sun sets, the reddish golden rays of Shwedagon reflect on everything around and turning into a magical arena. Great photo time & a moment to take away with you. Dinner with Myanmar Cultural Show at Karaweik Palace Restaurant. Accommodation at hotel, Yangon.

DAY (02) Yangon – Mandalay (By Expres Bus)

karaweik-01Breakfast at hotel. Today, you will visit further highlights in Yangon, including Chauk Htat Gyi – a huge reclining Buddha and the picturesque Kandawgyi Lake. Photo stop at Karaweik Hall – a mystic floating barge. Continue to Kaba Aye (World Peace) Pagoda and Mahapasana Guha Cave, where the Sixth Buddhist Council took place. Lunch at Green Elephant Restaurant. This afternoon, you have some free time until we transfer you to the highway bus terminal. There, you will board the Express Bus to Mandalay. This is an overnight trip; the bus does not stop except for dinner time and midnight coffee break time. Dinner at very simple local restaurant. Overnight on board.

The food & service could be very basic and might not be up to your standard especially for hygiene factor. Your guide will bring some dry provision and purified drinking water. Packed dinner can be arranged on request basis. Advance notice required

DAY (03) Mandalay

mandalay-02Breakfast at local restaurant. Check-in to your hotel. This morning is free for you to relax at hotel. But, we provide the car and guide at disposal, so that the tour can be started any time at your/your groups' convenience. Lunch at Ko's Kitchen Restaurant. In the afternoon, visit one of the highlights of Mandalay is Maha Myat Muni, the most revered Buddha statue in entire Myanmar. The whole image, except, the face is covered with thick layers of gold foils; a token of the devotees' intense faith to Buddha. If time permits, you may visit one of the tapestry workshops. Other significant monuments are Shwe Nan Daw Kyaung (Golden Palace Monastery), a delicately carved wooden building, Kuthodaw Pagoda (the world's largest book), consisting of 729 marble slabs engraved with Buddhist scriptures, and a photo stop at North Eastern corner of Royal Palace Moat. A visit to 230 meter high Mandalay Hill will conclude today's tour. Up here, you find a scenic view of the city, the plains surrounding it, the Shan Mountain, as well as the Ayeyarwaddy River, especially great at sunset. Dinner at Green Elephant Restaurant. DAY (04) Mandalay – Amarapura – Pyin Oo Lwin

upein-01Breakfast at hotel. This morning, drive (15 km – 30 mins.) to Amarapura, a royal capital founded before Mandalay. Firstly, we take you to Mahagandayon, one of the most prominent monasteries where nearly a thousand monks live and study. It's a chance to observe unique Myanmar monkshood. Then, proceed to U Bein Teak Bridge originally built in 1851. Take a leisurely walk over the bridge and enjoy the panoramic view of Taungthaman Lake and surrounding. If time permits, a brief stop is possible at traditional silk & cotton weaving. Lunch and B.B.B Restaurant. Afterwards, continue to Pyin Oo Lwin (Maymyo), a cool scenic hill station, over 1,000 m. above sea level, reached within two hours drive (80 km) from Mandalay. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and check-in. Start the tour of Pyin Oo Lwin in a unique, brightly painted miniature stagecoach, drawn by lively horse, towards the Kandawgyi National Park, home to diverse species of birds, insects, orchids and trees, attracts many visitors, both local and foreign travelers. Dinner at local restaurant. Accommodation at hotel, Pyin Oo Lwin.

DAY (05) Pyin Oo Lwin – Gokhteik Viaduct – Mandalay

gokhteik-01Breakfast at hotel. This morning, check-out hotel and transfer to train station at 08.00 hrs. Board the local train towards Naung Pain Village, via the famed Gokhteik Railway Viaduct. It was originally built by the British Pennsylvania Steel Co. in 1901, spanning a 300-meter deep Gohteik Gorge, and was recorded that time as the 2nd highest in the world. A marvel of engineering in its day! The best view of the bridge is from the train. As for the train, it is far too basic to meet international standard. However, an insight understanding of local life and the beautiful scenery worth the venture. Upon arrival at Naung Pain Village, tour around this typical Shan village before returning to Mandalay. A packed lunch is provided. In the afternoon, return via Gok Twin Valley Road by car to Mandalay. Upon arrival at Mandalay, transfer directly to your hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure. Dinner and accommodation at hotel, Mandalay.

DAY (06) Mandalay – Ava – Sagaing Hills – Mandalay

mei-nu-okkyaung-01Breakfast at hotel. This morning, you will drive out of Mandalay, to visit Innwa (Ava) , on the confluence of Myit-Nge River and Ayeyarwaddy River, reached after a short ferry ride. You will visit the area with horse cart; some part of the trip could be a little bumpy and dusty. The visit is, however, interesting as you are traveling through grass covered shady lanes, to see the monuments that scattered in & around the ancient wall. Major sights are Nanmyint Watch Tower also known as the leaning tower; Bagayar wooden monastery with large teak poles; and the beautiful Mei Nu Okkyaung built in brick. If time permits, you may visit the alms bowl making village. Lunch is served at a simple local restaurant (or) packed lunch.
After lunch, continue to Sagaing Hills, where hillsides are dotted with numerous pagodas and monasteries. You may stop at the silver craft workshop and a prominent monastery to discuss about the life of Buddhist Monks etc. Sagaing Hills is a perfect place to enjoy sunset with a widespread backdrops of the mountains, temples and the Ayeyarwaddy River. Drive back to Mandalay. Dinner and accommodation at hotel, Mandalay.

DAY (07) Mandalay – Bagan (by scheduled river ferry)

Transfer to jetty at 06.00 hrs or 06.30 hrs, depending on available ferry and its schedule of the day. Board the ferry. This down river journey takes approx. 7 hrs or 12 hrs depending on the ferry, water level & weather condition. Lunch on board (or) packed lunch (depending on the available ferry). This boat journey allows visitors to experience life & dazzling scenery along Myanmar’s most dominant river; a different phase to enjoy one’s visit of Myanmar. Upon arrival in Bagan, transfer from jetty directly to your hotel. Dinner and accommodation at hotel, Bagan.

DAY (08) Bagan

bagan-09Breakfast at hotel. Bagan morning tour starts with Nyaung U Market and continues with visit to significant pagodas and temples. First, you will visit Shwezigon Pagoda built by the great King Anawrahta in 11th century. It serves as a prototype of later Myanmar pagodas. Then, continue to Ananda Temple known for its finest artistic value and is perhaps the most beautiful monuments in Bagan. A brief stop is made for photo at Tharabar Gate. Lunch at River View Restaurant. This afternoon, we take you to Manuha Temple built by a captive Mon King. Here, one sees a huge sitting Buddha image housed in a relatively small chamber. As gloom and odd one would discern seeing as it is widely said that the captive king explained his despair through this image; it surely serves its purpose. Take a break from the temples and observe intricate steps of crafting Bagan’s famous lacquer ware and to stroll in a typical Myanmar farming village. Then, proceed to enjoy the enchanting sunset over Bagan’s plain as the conclusion of today’s tour. Dinner with cultural show at Nandar Restaurant. Accommodation at hotel, Bagan.

DAY (09) Bagan – Heho – Kalaw

palaung-pa-oh-villages-01Breakfast at hotel. This morning, transfer to Bagan (Nyaung U) Airport for domestic flight to Heho. Proceed by road to Kalaw (65 km - 2 hours). This lovely small town is formerly a British Hill station. Cool temperate climate and old colonial properties on hill tops are part of its charm. In town, the local market – especially colorful on market days, a small train station and a century old church are the highlights. In addition, Kalaw offers various trekking opportunities. Lunch at local restaurant. After lunch, we transfer you to your hotel. Time to prepare for your trekking trip. Near Kalaw, there are many ethnic tribe villages dotted hither and thither on Shan Mountain ranges. Today, you will trek to visit Palaung & Pa-Oh villages – significant tribes among Shan ethic groups. You are taking a walk through the hills, some tracks are steep up, some are easy plain walk and sometimes you walk down. The scenery varies as you walk past the villages, working farms and plantations, and as you ascend and descend on mountain paths. Some of its many crops harvested are tea, cheroots, orange, and banana. Finally, you reach the Palaung Village of Pinnabin, to observe the way they live in longhouses – quite a unique tradition. Then, return to your hotel through another route, the trip takes approx. 4 hours depending on the chosen route. Remaining of the day is at leisure. Dinner and accommodation at hotel, Kalaw.

DAY (10) Kalaw – Inle Lake

inle-04Breakfast at hotel. This morning, drive through refreshing scenic route to Nyaung Shwe (65 km – 1 ½ hrs) a gateway to Inle Lake, a freshwater lake in the heart of Shan Highlands. In Kalaw, or en route, you may get a chance to visit lively outdoor market, typical 5-day rotating market in Shan regions. That’s a place where you can see colorful tribes gathered from various villages nearby. The market offers variety of products, not for tourists, just for locals – meat, produce, herbs, and spices etc. Upon arrival at Nyaung Shwe, we stop for lunch at River View Restaurant. After lunch, proceed by boat to Inle Lake. This boat trip is truly pictorial. Admire the view of famous leg-rowers, typical floating gardens, local methods of fishing and village life. Don’t miss it; it’s a great photo time! Further visits are made to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the weaving village of Inpawkhon and Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery. Transfer to your hotel around sunset time. Dinner and accommodation at hotel, Inle Lake.

DAY (11)Inle Lake – Inndein Village – Inle Lake

indein-02Breakfast at hotel. This morning, depart your hotel by boat to visit Nampan Village and see the small traditional work places producing hand-made goods for local use and trading. Lunch at Nampan Restaurant. After lunch, enjoy a boat tour to Inndein Village at the western end of the lake. As you travel past the villages, the boat takes you through a long and narrow waterway with both shores covered by reeds and bamboo forest. This is probably one of the most scenic boat rides on the lake. Upon arrival, head to the ruined temple complex, following a stair path lined up with magnificent columns to the top. Return to jetty with leisurely descent and proceed by boat to your hotel. Dinner and accommodation at hotel, Inle Lake.

DAY (12)Inle Lake – Heho – Yangon

bogyoke-market-02Breakfast at hotel. This morning, transfer by boat to Nyaung Shwe, from where you proceed by road to Heho Airport (25 km - 1 hour). Upon arrival in Yangon, transfer you to the local restaurant. En route, stopping at National Museum famous for the 8-meter-high Golden Lion Throne and Mandalay Royal Regalia (closed on public holidays). Lunch at Padonmar Restaurant. This afternoon, the guide and car will be at your entire disposal for further sightseeing or shopping. As a free and easy tour for today, you may opt for taking a stroll at Bogyoke (Scott’s) Market with numerous shops (closed on Mondays), or, a brief walking tour at downtown area where various stalls are set on the platform to later turn to the night market. Dinner and accommodation at hotel, Yangon.

DAY (13)Yangon – Kyaikhtiyo (Golden Rock)

kyaik-htee-yo-01Breakfast at hotel. This morning, we pick you up at 0800 hrs and drive out of Yangon (approx. 200 km, 5 hrs) toKyaikhtiyo often referred to as Golden Rock. En route, stop briefly at the Commonwealth Cemetery near Htauk Kyant. From here onward, you drive through endless paddy fields and local villages on each side of the highway road - totally taking you to countryside. If time permits, a stop is made at a prominent monastery in Bago. Served at a local restaurant near Kyaikhto. Proceed to “Kinpun Base Camp”, from where further journey is made in open trucks on a steep and rough 11-km dirt road to the upper staging point. Then, travellers must walk up steep paths to the final stage that ascends some 500 meters, to reach to the Golden Rock. There you see a huge boulder which stands delicately balanced on the edge of a cliff, and is completely covered in gold leaves offered by individual pilgrims & devotees over centuries. As an easier alternative to walking, visitors can be carried in sedan chairs by four porters, at an extra cost of approximately US$ 10 per person. DAY (14)Kyaikhtiyo – Bago – Yangon


shwetharlyaung-01Rise before dawn and walk to the Golden Rock, to observe local pilgrims made their offerings of alms, candle lights, flowers etc. Let this calm and spiritual ambiance relaxes all your senses. As the sun rise, the area is more lively and charming. Take your chance to enjoy this unforgettable moment! Breakfast at hotel. After breakfast, descend to the base camp, either on truck or on foot through the scenic jungle path and board your tour bus to return Yangon. En route, stop at Bago, an ancient city of the 15th century Mon Kingdom and once a renowned throne resided by remarkable king Bayintnaung. Today, it remains an important archaeological site. Lunch at local restaurant in Bago. Continue with visits in Bago. Highlights include the golden Shwemawdaw Pagoda and the 55-meter-long Shwetharlyaung Reclining Buddha. Just outside of the town, a brief stop is made at Kyaik Pun Pagoda, famous for its four giant Buddha figures and handicraft villages producing woven bamboo wares and pottery. Then, proceed to Yangon. Enjoy Farewell Dinner at Le Plenture French Restaurant. Accommodation at hotel, Yangon.
