Indawgyi lake wildlife sanctuary is in Mohnyin township of Kachin state in the northern Myanmar. The sanctuary covers an area of 299.32 square miles. It was established in 1999.
It has an annual year round raining season with an average 1440 mm rainfall. In summer, average temperature is 27.9ºC and in the cold season 17.2ºC.
Yangon to Mohnyin is 700 miles (1120 km); Mohnyin to Hopin 45 miles (72 km) road and Hopin to Lontene village is 27 miles (43 km) on rough dry weather road.
To conserve the largest inland lake in Southeast Asia. To protec resident water birds, migratory birds and forest dwelling birds. To conserve Indawgyi watershed area. To promote ecotourism in the region.
Leopard, golden cat, the malaya sun bear, gaur, banteng or wild cow, serow, goral, sport-billed pelican, vulture, other water birds, 120 species of forest birds Myanmar peacock and Soft-shell turtle are present.
