In the late evening on the eve of the Water Festival, young women grind thanakha bark to a fine cream using water on rounded stone slabs. They are accompanied by music played by young men.

Stupa of sand built on the compound of Shwe-san-daw on the receding day of Thingyan. Sponsored by descendants of Shans, who migrated over a century ago. Buffalo dance included.

Elderly men and women are invited to Kaba Aye Pagoda Hillock to give be presented with various gifts, their hair is shampooed and their nails cut as a symbolic gesture to pay respect.

One month long festival Every village, from the 64 villages in Chaungzon, takes its turn at giving food to people. Everyone has a free meal at any home he or she enters, whether they know the person or not. It is believed that the more guests a house receives, the better future the family will have.

Pa-Oh Rocket Festival
Location: Water Hole, Taung-gyi and elsewhere
Approx.one month long festival. Locally made rockets stuffed with powerful gunpowder are ceremoniously carried and launched in competition. Observed mostly by ethnic Pa-Oh people to plredict the weather and crop. Young men and women use small mirrors to tease one another. Date varies.
