DAY (08) MANDALAY -
BAGAN (by scheduled river ferry)
Transfer to jetty at 06.00 hrs or
06.30 hrs, depending on available ferry and its schedule of
the day. Board the ferry. This down river journey takes
approx. 7 hrs or 12 hrs depending on the ferry, water level &
weather condition. Lunch on board (or) packed lunch (depending
on the available ferry).
This boat journey allows visitors
to experience life & dazzling scenery along Myanmar's most
dominant river; a different phase to enjoy one's visit of
Myanmar. Upon arrival in Bagan, transfer from jetty directly

BAGAN
Breakfast at hotel. This morning,
start your full day
BAGAN sightseeing tour
with a visit to see the golden stupa of
SHWEZIGON PAGODA,
where the 37 pre-Buddhist 'nets' were first officially
endorsed by the Barmar monarchy. The 12th
Century originals were spirited away by a collector and are
now reportedly somewhere in Italy. Then visit
KYANSITTHA UMIN
'Cave'
Temple. Although officially
credited to Kyansittha, this cave temple may actualy date back
to Anawrahta. Next stop is
HTILOMINLO
situated close to the road
between Nyaung U and Bagan, built by king Nantaungmya in 1218
and traces of old murals are also still visible. Continue to
ANANDA
TEMPLE,
a whitewashed masterpiece of Mon architecture with four
standing Buddhas, and the adjacent brick monastery with
beautiful, well-preserved 18th
century murals. Make a photo stop at
THATBYINNYU 'Omniscient' TEMPLE,
one of the highest in Bagan, rises to 61m and was built by
Alaungsithu around the mid-12th
Century. Then check into your hotel. Lunch at hotel.
In the afternoon, visit the ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
(if open). Continue
to DHAMMAYANGYI,
a massive-looking temple dating from 1170, which is famous for
its interlocking mortarless brickwork. Then visit,
MINGALAZEDI
built in 1277 by Narathihapati and it was the very last or the
large late period, thus representing the final flowering of
Bagan's architectural skills. Stop at
MOE MOE LACQUER WARE FACTORY
to watch craftsmen
skilfully making this most famous of Bagan handicrafts. Enjoy
magnificent sunset over Bagan's temples and the Ayeyarwaddy
River from one of the Bagan
monument. Dinner and puppet Show at Nanda Restaurant.

DAY (10) BAGAN

Bagan
sightseeing tour starts with a
visit SULAMANI,
more sophisticate temple
styles, with better internal lighting. Constructed circa 1181
by Narapatisithu and the temple features two storeys standing
on broad terraces assembled to create a pyramid effect. Then
visit LEMYETHNA TEMPLE
built in 1222, topped by and Indian-style spire like that on
Ananda. Continue to
PAYATHONZU (the name
literally means Three Stupas) design is remarkably similar to
Khmer Buddhist ruins in Thailand and two of the shrines
contain vaguely Chinese or Tibetan-looking mural paintings
that contain Bodhisattva figures. Visit
NANDAMANNYA
TEMPLE,
dating from the mid-13th
Century with fine frescoes and an unexpectedly erotic mural.
Take a break from temples and
wander through the village of
MINNANTHU
to see how the local people live. Enjoy lunch at Sunset
Garden Restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit
ABEYADANA TEMPLE
with frescoes representing
Bodhisattvas and the gods of Indian mythology. Visit
NANPAYA
Temple, built in the Mon style
with intricate stone carvings, and said once to have been
Manuha's residence. See the four Buddha images in
MANUHA PAGODA.
Then stop at MYAZEDI
STUPA to see Myanmar's
"Rosetta Stone", bearing inscriptions written in four
languages. Lastly, admire the fine stuccowork at
GUBYAUKGYI
Temple (Myinkaba village). Dinner

DAY (11) BAGAN
- SALAY - POPA (Overland)
Breakfast at hotel.
Drive out of Bagan through Chauk,
where you will see old Burma Oil installations ('nodding
donkeys'), and along the banks of the Ayeyarwady
River. Continue to
PAYATHONZU,
a complex of three brick shrines with mural paintings from the
Bagan period, and see
MAN PAYA - a large
lacquer Buddha image, said to date from the 13th
century. Arrival in Salay and visit of
YOKESONE MONASTERY,
which is the oldest surviving wooden monastery hall built on
154 teak posts with beautiful wood carvings decorating the
outer walls. From Salay continue your drive to Mount
Popa. Lunch at hotel.
In the afternoon, visit
MOUNT
POPA,
home to Myanmar's intriguing 'nats' (spirits). The steps and
path climb steeply up Mount
Popa - an energetic climb
rewarded by fabulous views from the top. If you like climbing,
a trip to the Summit of Mt. Popa can be done. Mt.
Popa is famous for a small
mountain with nat-shrines at the foot of the distinct volcano
of Mt. Popa. This tour
takes you to the very top of the volcano. The volcano is a
national park and all around the base of the mountain are
plantations with different types of trees. The path is steep,
un-even and leads through different kinds of forests, up to
the summit of the volcano. One can return the same way or by a
path in the volcano crater. Dinner and accommodation at

DAY (12) MOUT
POPA - KALAW
Breakfast. Depart
POPA
in the early morning for a full
day drive to KALAW
which was formerly a British Hill
Station. Although a long
and tiring trip, this is one of the most scenic drives in
Myanmar.
The road to Kalaw is very bumpy
but the scenery is interesting - endless paddy fields in the
morning and rolling hills in the afternoon, as the road climbs
into the mountains of southern Shan
State. Lunch at local restaurant
on the way.
In the afternoon you arrive in
Kalaw visit the local market and the tiny train station. If
more time visit SHWE OO
MIN PAGODA and
NHEE PAYA MONASTERY.

DAY (13) KALAW
- PINDAYA
Breakfast. This morning, drive to
Pindaya and check-into your hotel. Lunch at Memento
Restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit
PINDAYA CAVES,
ensconced in limestone ridge overlooking the lake. Inside the
cavern there are more than 8008 Buddha images - made from
alabaster, teak, marble, brick, lacquer and cement. Then visit
some LOCAL HOUSES
where families produce
SHAN PAPER
and PARASOLS.

DAY (14) PINDAYA
- INLE LAKE
Breakfast at hotel. This morning,
drive from Pindaya down into the valley to Nyaungshwe on the
edge of Inle Lake
and board your own local boat to take you to your hotel. Lunch
at hotel.
In the afternoon,
enjoy your
INLE
LAKE
Boat Trip and you will see the
lake's unique "LEG
ROWERS" - the Intha
people row standing up with one leg wrapped around an oar.
Visit to PHAUNG DAW OO
PAGODA, the holiest
religious site in the southern Sahan
State. Five images, for of which
are ferried around the lake during Phaung Daw U Festival (late
September/early October - please check with us for exact
festival date).
Then stalls on the ground floor of the shrine and nearby sell
brightly coloured cotton Shan shoulder bags, other local
crafts and 'antiques'. Silk and cotton fabrics are a local
speciality, there are over 200 handloom. Continue visit to
NGA PHE KYAUNG (Jumping
Cat Monastery),
wooden monastery on stilts over the lake. Dinner and

DAY (15) MAING THAUK - INDEIN
Breakfast
at hotel. This morning visit to village of
MAING THAUK
on the edge of Inle Lake
by boat. Walk up a dirt track through the village and
continue up the hill to a stupa. The walk takes around 2 hours
round trip and the route is not steep. Lunch at Namphan
Restaurant, located in the middle of the lake.
In the
afternoon, we enjoy another boat tour to
INDEIN,
at the western end of the Lake. The boat takes you through a
long and this ride is one of the most scenic boat tours on
Lake Inle. Dinner and
accommodation at hotel, Inle
Lake.
Breakfast at hotel. Today, enjoy
a full day boat trip to the southern part of Lake
Inle. Visit one of the
5 DAYS
ROTATING MARKET
on the way (check
for market day).
While driving through
KYAUKTAING you may
stop to visit a small pottery production centre. The village
of KYAINKHAM
near Kyauktaing is famous for the
production of fibers made out of Lotus trunks. These fibers
are mainly used to weave Robes for the monks. You will leave
the lake and continue through a narrow channel to the southern
part of the lake. Arrive at Thakong and enjoy your lunch at
the Pa-O restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit
THAKONG PAGODA.
Continue to SANGHA
village, which was
once a Shan Prince village. Walk through this quiet village,
talk to the villagers and visit the remains of some old
pagodas. You may also stop a local rice wine distillery.
Return by boat back to Nampan, then to your hotel. Dinner and
accommodation at hotel, at Inle
Lake.

DAY (17) INLE LAKE - YANGON
Breakfast at hotel. This morning,
leave your hotel by boat and then drive to Heho
Airport. Domestic flight from
Heho to Yangon. Arrive at
Yangon Airport and
transfer to your hotel. Lunch at hotel.
In the afternoon, visit to
BOGYOKE (SCOTT) MARKET
(closed on Public Holidays)
and it has the largest selection of Burmese handicrafts. Visit
to the reclining Buddha at
CHAUK HTAT GYI PAGODA,
is almost as large at he enormous figure in Bago Shwethalyaung.
Then visit to
BOTATHAUNG PAGODA
close to the Yangon Wharves. Then transfer back to your for
refreshment before dinner. In the evening transfer to White
Rice Restaurant, in Bogyoke
Park for Dinner. Accommodation at
hotel, Yangon.
